the Metropolitan of Thirunanathapuram Diocese. The
Sunday School day includes Prize distribution and
programs by Sunday School children. Prize distribution
includes academic prizes and prizes for the annual
cultural competition.

Welcome to the website of
St. Mary’s Orthodox Church Chicago. Modern communication
devices made it possible for all of us to understand
each other much faster. The purpose of this website is
to disseminate information regarding us and our
activities to those who are interested in our ministry.
This parish is a part
of the American diocese, under the Catholicos of the
East, who is the Chief Hierarch sitting on the Apostolic
Throne of St. Thomas in the East. This was formerly in
the based in the Middle East, and became defunct due to
Muslim persecutions. The same was restored in
Malankara (the ancient name of the present State of
Kerala in India) in 1912. The head of the Orthodox
Syrian Church of the East is called Catholicos .
St. Mary’s is the
extension of the first ministry for the Malankara
Orthodox Syrian Christians that was started in 1971 by
Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Thottupuram upon his arrival as a
graduate student in Chicago.
Rev.Fr.
Maliyil Sunoj Oommen has been appointed the
Assistant Vicar of St.Mary's Parish at Oak Lawn, IL and
has joined St.Mary's on July 25th, 2005.
Chor Episcopa Kuriakose Thottupuram will continue to be
the Vicar.
